City Lights
In our silent production,
I play a Chaplin
man tripping
over my
mustache,
feet clownishly close,

and you,
with eyes that say it all,
halve my heart immediately.

My tongue slips
banana peel
and the words
land in a jumbled heap of white
on a black screen.

Laughing
in the silence and mystery, you disappear
into the next scene, and I am left flickering alone,
flapping against an endless
reel of possibility.
